Our Grassroots campaign
My Candidacy is as much about winning an election the right way as it is about winning an election. That is why we have committed to spending $6000 or less, and why we have pledged to turndown any endorsement, money from, or personal help (door knockers/phone banks) from any Political Party. I am the only candidate in Coronado to make that pledge. No Coronado Candidate should have to spend 12K (much less 50k) to get elected to a Coronado Council seat. If we play that game, we just hurt Coronado down the line.
That is why we win or lose this election with Honestly, Integrity, Frank and Open Communication. We win or lose with the Residents Interests in our hearts, and the Long Term Good of Coronado in our minds. We may not have the shiniest uniforms on the field, but with your help, we can teach them a thing or two...
Maybe this kind of campaign is so important to me because a part of me believes that if a true "people centered campaign" can't be won, Coronado might be beyond saving.
If people running for Council are truly doing it in the interest of bettering Coronado, and I have no doubt they are, why are they spending 12k-50k on their campaign? Doesn't spending that kind of money set a precedent that hurts Coronado? Don't those kinds of expenditures limit potential winning candidates to those who have money or political backing? If Candidates are truly running to "better Coronado", shouldn't we win on what we say, not how loud/often our money allows us to say it?
